Representation

JLC will facilitate an engaging library presence that stimulates the Muslim American experience for all patrons, with a special focus on the youth. Having access to books that critique aspects of identity, including what Muslims see as essential to our religious identity and key values and goals in life more broadly.

Accessibility

JLC will provide free access to relevant age appropriate books, media resources, and materials available in that allows patrons to borrow, use, and critique information pertaining to Islam effectively. By facilitating a library literary space that validates its patrons through books and media that represent their experience, ICCH is providing essential skills that is not otherwise available/accessible. The aim is to also include: Online Access, Books and materials in multiple languages (including but not limited to)Arabic, English, Urdu, Bengali, Indonesian, Spanish, Farsi and Pashtu, American Sign Language Club, Reviving Sunnah Series, Self-Help, Mental Health, Disability Awareness 

Relevance

It is essential for Muslim Americans to have the tools and resources to critique the world around them and understand how best to reconcile their purpose. Journey Literacy Center will provide Islamically relevant classes, events, story telling, exchanging news, multilingual materials, and other relevant information to present times.

JLC aims to be sustainable by facilitating an effective volunteer program that sources and trains new volunteers, promotes continuous youth engagement, and optimal operations within its committees. The central goal is to ‘give back’ to the community with the best in adab, deen, humility, and beneficial knowledge.
